I have a somewhat varied background, career-wise: after graduation from Oxford University (Worcester College [the most beautiful in Oxford]) and Lisbon University (Faculdade de Letras) in Brazilian and Portuguese Studies I read for the Bar (Gray's Inn) and by modes of indirection became a Deputy Chief Clerk in the Inner London Magistrates' Courts' Service until promotion (1989) to the senior posting of Clerk to the Justices in Derwentside (County Durham). After a Sabbatical break in the mid 1990s I became Senior Magistrate / Registrar of Montserrat and subsequently Senior Legal Advisor to the Registrar of ICTR - the U.N. International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (until 2005). Since then have been a student (unofficially but with the agreement of some superb Professors) of International Law at Oxford.
